of Buchanan

The Rural Municipality of Buchanan, which has a population of 546 and known as the Heart of The Parkland, was established in 1913. Cereal crops and other specialty crops are grown in this area. The lighter soils in the area, covered by pasture, support livestock operations.

A Sask Wheat Pool fertilizer plant and grain and livestock operations reflect the agricultural make-up of the municipality.

Students in the area are bused into elementary of high schools in Canora, Preeceville or Sturgis, depending on residential location.

Local tax rate is 12 mills for municipal purposes, and 19.5 to 21.5 mills for education depending on the school district. The municipality offers fire protection to the entire RM through the Sturgis fire department.

The RM features a low cost of living, and is a great place to call home.
